When you think of Chiang Mai, apart from its rich natural, historical and cultural attractions, this city in the northern part of Thailand has an impressive number of contemporary hot spots that have proven to be hits among the young locals and tourists alike. For my recent trip to Chiang Mai, I had a chance to visit one of the city’s latest happening hangout spots – One NIMMAN. Situated at the heart of Chiang Mai’s trendiest part of town Nimmanhemin Road, One NIMMAN is the city’s new Art, Culture and Lifestyle Space that blends in the modern lifestyle with Chiang Mai’s local culture, or to put it simply, you could say that it’s a community mall that skillfully blends modern and local retail shops alongside a variety of interesting restaurants, coffee shops, art spaces and more.
There are quite a good selection of cool independent retail shops on the 1st floor at One NIMMAN, like Greenies & Co where shoppers can browse through fine handmade leather goods from Ars D-Sign, Chiang Mai’s leading exporter of leather products.
Butterfly Collection, a Thai fragrance brand with the concept of ‘harmonizing ancient wisdom and contemporary techniques to create distinctive perfumes’.
Graph Cafe also opened its newest branch here, so if you’re into coffee and design cafes like me, definitely check them out. (New post about Graph One NIMMAN coming soon)
Every inch of this place is so photogenic, you literally cannot stop taking pictures! I read that One NIMMAN’s design is a mix between Venetian Gothic and traditional Lanna architecture, where the latter’s distinctive design elements are still visible around Chiang Mai. For example, posh boutique hotels and old temples dotted around the city.
Once you come up the escalator to the upper floor, there will be a set route for you to walk pass more shops selling all kinds of products from beauty and skincare, home decor, art and crafts, souvenirs, etc.
If you want to take a little break from all the shopping, don’t forget to check out the food court area. The range of food here is pretty good, offering visitors many classic favorites like Pork Satay, Beef and Chicken Khao soi, Papaya Salad, Boat Noodles and more.
If you are planning to visit Chiang Mai, I’d totally recommend you to checkout the city’s new landmark. The architecture is simply stunning, the range of international and independent local retail shops is impressive, and the selection of restaurants and cafes is of great variety (Kiew Kai Ka and Artisan Cafe will also be opening here soon). There are also spaces dedicated to art exhibitions, workshops, and other activities, like Salsa dance lessons held on every Sunday at the courtyard area. To be honest, I wish Bangkok had more creative and culture-driven community malls like One NIMMAN!
